please explain, i have plenty of relationships with people with whom sex is the furthest thing from my mind. to make this statement true you'd have to stretch the sense of "erotic" past the point of usefulness or reason. literally everything would end up as eros, which i'm personally ok with but it means that the incest taboo is also eros unless it's supposed to be some primal perversion of eros which doesn't make sense if ALL human relationships are erotic, it seems like a quasi-religious retooling of the fall from grace.

That's exactly why I qualified my observation about Dworkin with the caveat that in general, you cannot dismiss a writer's ideas based on their appearance (that is, you cannot resort to the "ad hom" in general as you've correctly intimated, though in a whiny fashion). Even the fat hypocrite who writes books on diet and exercise is still capable of dispensing sound, scientifically based advice even if they themselves don't follow same. The hypocrite has the capacity to speak the truth while later doing the opposite.

Dworkin's case is a step worse than this in that the ideas are themselves either false (all sex is rape), or else a projection based upon her anecdotally horrible experience with men and own body issues. In other words, she doesn't even speak an appealing (and actually true) truth of any kind. The sensible person knows that the answer is not to pathologize sex, but instead to pathologize Dworkin. And the sensible person knows this on the instant of seeing her photograph and putting same against her ideas.
