Fiction - whether it be the religious poetry of Dante, the heroic epics of Homer, the plays of Shakespeare, the satire of Rabelais, Ariosto and Cervantes, or the novels of Dostoevsky - has an inherent capacity to pictorially reflect human nature, discourse on theology, grapple with philosophy, evoke strong emotions, deepen our capacity for empathy and widen our intellectual horizon.
That is speaking of good fiction, of course. Normie tier fiction is just plain escapism with a momentary entertainment value. Nothing wrong with that occasionally, but it's sad to see so many read this form exclusively.
