Who was the first philosopher you read, when, and why?
Pic related, I was 17. I had my first big breakup with a girl like 2 months before, and I knew why, because I was incredibly naive and I fucked it up due to my idiocy. I had a weak father who left the family when I was young, so I was really weak paternally, which should clue you in on the nature of my naivete. I discovered Nietzsche then and he kind of became a surrogate father.
My introduction was literally called introduction to philosophy which was entrance exam material, the first philosopher I read was probably G.H Von Wright, unless you count some novelists or stuff like Aristotle's Poetics.

Transcendentalists--Emerson in particular.
It was a pretty good experience
William lane craig.
I used to be into the whole atheist thing and spent all my time reading and watching things related to atheism and religion at the age of 15-16.
When I got to william lane craig though, I was stumped and angry since he seemed to know it all and none of the atheists I admired had a objection to the cosmological/ontological argument that convinced me. That lead me to read his works on philosophy but I quickly moved onto plato and aristotle.
I remember moving into the suburbs in Ga from the bronx when I was 16. I didn't have a car and I was failing math, a buddy told me to start going to the library with him and a group of friends ( his friends ) to catch up on hw and ask for help with anything. Anyways,
I would wonder around the library, always getting there a bit early after school . I found Hannah Arendts " Life of the mind", of course I didn't understand any of it, but it led to find Augustine ( after looking her up more ) .

My Freshman Philosophy professor from the community college I went to before I went to a real university. He was an old Santa looking fuck who had all the hipster girls and fat trailer park moms under his spell. He didn't so much teach philosophy as condescendingly require that everyone agree with his basic bitch left wing options in the most round about way possible. This jack ass devoted an entire class to bitching about Nam and talking shit about the military because I off offhandedly mentioned I wanted to be a Navy Seal one day. I used to have a passing interest in Philosophy, but this coot failed so fantastically as a teacher that I will likely never look into the subject ever again. As my Father aptly put it "It is mental masturbation."

It's relevant to Nietzsche, no? He started on a similar boat.
