Anyone here a translator or have an interest in translation?
Which languages?
Literary, technical or otherwise?
Went to university for it?
What are your favorite translators or translation theorists?
For general readers: do you consider which translation to get when acquiring a book? Do you even pay attention to that?

I work as a professional technical writer for a company you definitely know. I have a Master's degree in English. My native language is Danish.
Honestly, technical writing isn't very much about writing. I'm just a document office monkey and shuffle (digital) papers around. When I translate, which isn't that often, it's rarely very much. Most of my job consists of updating existing documents and making sure that whatever the engineers (or someone else) wrote doesn't sound fucking stupid, and can be understood by the people working in production (i.e. no fancy words).
It's a good job, but it's not really inspiring or creative at all. My contract ends soon and I'm hoping to pursue a PhD.
I'd like to do some Norwegian, but I don't know the language.
