How do you guys go about picking cool sounding names? Serious question

some of the best characters in literature have plain names. this isn't due to any secret, it's just because people are called things.

don't aim for cool

1) ethnic makeup of the area of the character's origin / their family
2) class
3) mythological resonance (the more oblique the better)

cool sounding name is subjective

I think about what names were popular based on the character's demograph in the setting factoring in time/nationality/etc
