Or is it Adam Smith tier, in terms of being dry and boring?

I want to learn about Marxism and get to the bottom of what communism is about. Hopefully by reading it, I can get a better understanding of 'leftists' and the body of work they have produced to this day.

I have a economics degree, if that helps.

Read Marx's addresses and letters and such. Much more succinct and passionate.
One of the addresses to one of the internationals has an awesome line about arming the entire proletariat at once with muskets and cannons.
