Each day after she cleans the seat to a shine, she leaves, and each day the bowl wonders when it will be the day she sits. But the days pace into years and the years into a decade. And finally it is the day. Yet she is weeping. And when she pulls her pants down, blood stains her white panties. She sits and passes the miscarriage through his soul, and he can do nothing but be inanimate. He cannot speak. He is in utter joyed and he is in utter pain. He wishes he had never met her, never been cleaned at all. He wishes he had been a stick of wood in a fire place lit on Christmas day.
