You can tell no one has read him because no one has an original opinion about him.

White Dog

I went for a walk on Hollywood Boulevard.
I looked down and there was a large white dog
walking beside me.
his pace was exactly the same as mine,
we stopped at traffic signals together.
a woman smiled at us.
he must have walked 8 blocks with me.
then I went into a grocery store and
when I came out he was gone.
or she was gone.
the wonderful white dog
with a trace of yellow in its fur.
the large blue eyes were gone.
the grinning mouth was gone.
the lolling tongue was gone.

things are so easily lost.
things just can’t be kept forever.

I got the blues.
I got the blues.
that dog loved and
trusted me and
I let it walk away.

I think doug stanhope is the good version of him

I've only read Factotum by this man. It was far too realistically gross for me to enjoy, and the guy seems quite arrogant for how much of a suck he appears to be. He seems like the H.S. Thompson of alcoholism, written towards edgy guys looking for a brand to get behind to justify their failures.
>>
He's one of my favorites. Somebody who's been through what real people go through

>>9886898
Ham on Rye is my favorite. Make sure you read post office and O factotum

talentless, hipsters pretend he is a god but he is a hack.

he kinda effortlessly calls it how it is, sometimes not even intentionally.

Basically
Women is also a must-read
>>
I didn't like the Post Office so I haven't read anything else by him. John Fante is better.
>>
His books are fun and easy to read, don't expect high quality literature though.

The Brotherhood of the Grape is the only thing I've read by Fante and I'd be interested in more. What else is good by him?
>>
As a poet I appreciate the brevity in his poems, his ability to tell stories and encapsulate his feelings and mind. Definitely he had a very distinct voice and you can tell it's his.

He's very easy to shit on for being arrogant, and drunk, and not someone that is highbrow. And it's easy to think he is the greatest poet of the 20th century if you really don't care too much about other poets that are a bit more challenging.

He was good at what he did, he had lived a fucking depressing life and knew how to make art out of it, he'all likely be remembered for a while to come because he inspires the musicians and the poets of today.

Best I can say about him is that he at least made his poetry enjoyable to read.

Wow. I love this. I love how hardcore Thompson was. Hardcore! Sort of like Bolano when he gave up poetry. So, hardcore!
>>
You'd think the /pol/ posters would be all over him with how misogynistic that guy was.

Women is unironically one of my favorites
