Players, just finished it last week. Top tier DeLillo
not OP, but i'm working my way through White Noise now and I like it. Was thinking about reading Underworld next. Is this an awful idea? Any books of his I should read first if so?

Fuck. I read White Noise and thought it was so in your face and awful. I read a reveiw that essentially agreed and said, "well, it wouldn't be as good if it were written today. But for it's time, White Noise was alright."
Okay, I thought. I'll give Mao II a try. I read that book until there were 20 pages left then threw it in the trash. What garbage. DeLillo's characters are the least human I've ever read, and his in your face themes and shitty plot don't make them any more bearable.

>his in your face themes
what exactly did you take to be the themes of White Noise? Don't bother responding if you thought it was about consumerism

i dont know, all of his other books looked really long. so i read mao 2, didn't really like it, but at least now i can say i've read delillo.
Delillo has a short story called Midnight in Dostoyevsky that is enrapturing. It's available free online. Check it out.
White Noise or Libra

Great Jones Street or Libra.

Are you shitting me? White noise is like 300 pages.

depends on what you're looking for,
If you want good sci fi dellilo, go for The Names or Ratner's Star, or even his first book which is a surprisingly solid debut (forgot the name)
You should probably read White Noise or Libra desu, both some of his most realized works ideologically, and I'd cap off with Underworld, which has it's tedious bits but also has probably the best opening and closing 100 pages of any book I've read in a while. Sometimes Dellilo will hit this groove and the writing is stupid gorgeous.
Cosmopolis is one of his best.

Mao II > Libra > Underworld > the rest
is how I recommend him.

Libra. Underworld. White Noise. Point Omega.
