He describes the lifestyle of the typical poor white family in America and goes on to put forward the hypothesis that the reason both poor white people and poor black people stay poor is their culture and way of living. For example, he had no father and his mother was a drug addict for most of his adolescence, and he says the only reason he ended up going to Yale was because his grandparents lived in the same neighborhood and basically acted as his proxy parents.

It's a good story and interesting idea and one reason I believe the only way to solve poverty will be to take poor people's children away from them and send them to boarding schools.

I will say that his humble schtick gets old. The prick isn't even that smart but obviously thinks he's god's gift to mankind because he was a diversity admit to Yale law.

But honestly, I think it's important to hear from articulate people you disagree with. Don't take the people bashing his ideas as a reason not to read the book. The prose is nice for its genre, read it yourself, see what you think about it, and then after discuss it here, if you want.
