Norwegian Wood is Murakami's admitted attempt at a bestseller, and it's pretty good.
Steppenwolf really is a fantastic read but the introduction in mine says many people interpret it wrong. Students tend to go through a period of Identifying with the main character, which wasn't Hesse's objective, apparently.
Haven't read the others but they're probably great.

Why are you reading physical cocà books? Just wondering
Currently reading these.
I'm enjoying all of them, especially Mo Yan's Republic of Wine.(One third is fascinating, one third is hilarious and one third is horrifying so far)
Top two are the Annalects of Confucius (New translation I got after I found it while randomly roaming the city, so far it's better than the one I had, which was made in the 60s I think) and the Book of Odes to accompany it. (Just when the Annalects references it, already read it once, it's pretty, what can I say)
Took up reading Three Kingdoms again after I abandoned it. Enjoying it more than last time, guess it's like wine, the experience older, the better.Dong Zhou got fucking OWNED I sorta get why it's memed so much now.

That's how I fell for the Nabokov meme. I've never read a book written so beautifully. Been reading up a lot on vlad and watching videos of him and really love the emphasis he puts on the "aesthetic bliss" of the novel. His opinions on authors are hilarious as well.
>>9870649

The others seem neat though. Didn't realise Dune was that large. Curious about Johnny Marr's book too - I love The Smiths but Morrissey is insufferable (and this is coming from a guy who likes his solo work too) and I want to hear a smattering of shit-flinging from a cool guy guitarist who played for Modest Mouse.

Debolsillo is shit.
r8 my stack /lit/. Also give me recs, but you guys always give shit recs.
Got these from the library the other day.
New reader though, just getting into it again and wanting to take it seriously from here on, so I might be punching above my weight class by taking out something like Ulysses, but I was just so astonished to see that my library had it at all that I instantly took it and added it to the rest of my books. Oh and I also went back after and got Anna Karenina, since it's considered one of the best novels ever written and also happens to be a love story, which I have a deep attraction to as a genre.
So help me /lit/ friends, do I need to do a lot of prerequisite reading before I can tackle Ulysses or Karenina? I thrifted A Portrait earlier today, if that helps in regards to Ulysses.
>>9885754
Prerequisite reading is the worst meme. Bibliographical and historical context are never necessary. Just read books because you enjoy it or something. Nobody cares if you understand Ulysses's relationship to Greek myth or the loss of pre-christianity Irish folklore.
>>9855070
>1)
nice picks. i strongly recomend that you read tractatus before reading anything else by wittgenstein, with good commentary letterature to try to understand i better (if by any chance u speak/read italian, the best book ever written about tractatus' logic and ontology is 'la fatica di descrivere' by roberto dionigi....if it just was in english or german it would be the book everybody would read to understand wittgenstein).
>2)
i suggest that you read philosophy of mind by kim instead of the one you own, way more in depth analysis of some problems.
