Is this an enjoyable read? If so what would you compare it to?

Yes it's an enjoyable read if you are into SciFi. Part 1 is good, 2 is a bit slow/boring and part 3 is the best in my opinion.
Bit of a problem was to get used to Chinese names

part 1 is great and stands alone
part 2 is a bit long but has a beautiful wrap up. the characters are the best in this one
part 3 is absolute batshit and the ending is sort of shit but it will take your imagination to new horizons or whatever it is good sci fi is supposed to do

I'd give the trilogy a try if you are into SciFi.
