Language just kind of seems to work, but it's also really slippery and playfully unreliable whenever you try to pin it down or squeeze it real tight and make it do specific things. A bunch of homosexual Greeks got together and devised a plan to trap language in one spot, and pin her down tight or all eternity so she'd always do the same thing reliably, and we could finally talk about reality and existence and all those important things with complete 100% regularity. After a lot of very homosexual conversations they finally nabbed her, and once she was tied down, people spent a few thousand years trying to pin her down ever more tightly and tightly and tightly, because if language still wasn't doing what you wanted it to and giving you perfect access to reality then you just haven't fastened it down hard enough. Then two Nazis cam along and said, wait a minute, we never actually had her at all, we just thought we were pinning her down, but she was never caught to begin with. She rused us all along. And this French little Jew from Algeria said yes, I agree, you can only ever make language dance around like a slut, and you can only make her do the one thing you want her to do in the moment by doing other things that allow that thing to stand out and make sense, but when you stop doing that, it all goes away and you have to start over every time.

It's a waste of time. Deconstructionists fall for the 'symbol' trap. They think that a text 'points toward' something else, rather than embodying an idea. They play a word game designed to confuse readers which optimizes their opportunities for communicating their status. It's a wholly academic exercise.

Don't worry about it, its irrelevant to art and art history. Most people only believe the misunderstand it because they engage with literature seriously, and don't understand what the deconstructionist critic is 'missing'
>>
>>9829725
>deconstruction
Derrida's post-heideggerian critique of metaphysics, spiced with saussurian linguistics.

>deconstructionism
Bullshit appropriation of pseudo-derridean ideas by literaries who have no clue.
>>
>>9829725
im gonna do a piss poor job because i have to leave for work soon

structuralism sees a sentence and understands that that string of words has created an idea that goes off in your head.

deconstructionism sees each words as a trigger for an image. i say tree. you may think of a pine tree. i may think of something like oak. this leads to everybody reading sentences differently. its basically using your knowledge to critique works. mainly, everybody is going to interpret everything differently, even if its small details.

The written word is often seen as a placeholder for the spoken word, but the written word is central to philosophy so one in the binary can't be favoured over the other, and we 'misread' text all the time so it too is fundamental to philosophy so deconstruction is the application of context to the text
>>
Helps you realize when people say "cool" they don't know what the other is even saying most the time.

that's actually a pretty cool insight, thanks

Derrida is just a cynical post 68 normie walter benjamin impersonator
>>
Deconstructionism is a literary devince like Neon Genesis Evangelion where the robot battles are sad and terrible instead of being cool like before (deconstructing the mecha genre). Same thing with Madoka but with magical girls.

Criticism. There, I just blew your fucking mind.

>lol nothing is real bro woah everything is a social construct dude smoke dis bitch
It's hell brought loose on earth.
>>
>>9832228
You know social contruct just means that something can change over time in different societies right? Like money is a social contruct but it's still regarded as real.
>>
>>9832161
thats not deconstructionism. thats post modernism if anything as it sees its genre and turns its cliche on its head. its like a nod to viewers saying, "we know you've watched mecha you weaboo"

Social construct is just an agreed upon standard.

Hell, even history is a construct.

Derrida is a snake oil salesman. I remember a particularly ludicrous quote of his in which he talked about how his deconstructive elixir was going to prevent annudah shoah and save oppressed minorities from phallogoeurocentrism. Derrida was a hack, but hey at least he wasn't evil like Foucault or that wife strangling self admitted fraud Althusser.

A bunch of French communists realized that the Soviet Union was shit and that the right was right about Stalinism. Unwilling to risk their intellectual prestige by admitting they were wrong, they decided to deny reality itself.

This is your brain on ideology

Pay attention to context, always remark it when talking about a work of literature, or any kind of medium of communication, then everyone will think you are a professional deconstructor, and no one will ever give you a job
Thats it

Nietzsche was far from being a nazi and Heidegger was just pretending to be a nazi to save his manlet ass and be able to to keep teaching at university, he was very openly critical about Nazism, but of course he saw some stuff about it that could had been positive but he realized they were retards very fast
>>
>>9833056
>Heidegger was just pretending to be a nazi
not true. he used nazism to help get him promoted to the rector of freidburg, but he genuinely believed that nazism was a new start for germany until about 1936 when he stepped down and retreated into the countryside. though he criticized some aspects of nazism later he was never very apologetic about it.

I wanna note here that structuralism, or at least De Saussure, never claimed to be speaking about the "real" language. Rather, langue was always supposed to be the necessary abstraction of parole, like a static snapshot. And of course De Saussure never published anything himself, and he proposed at least three supplementary sciences (semiotics, historical linguistics, and something that could study parole) to his linguistics--so structuralism was always built on incomplete bases.

Deconstructionism is the act of building a lineage of ways in which a concept has been used.

Actually, behind all the verbosity of archetypal male protagonists, real creative lifeforce of Joyce's writing is Her: Molly Bloom (yes I said yes I will Yes) or ALP (ineffable, playful, elusive Anna Livia Plurabelle).

Its like instead of Mobile Suit Gundam or Cardcaptor Sakura, you make Neon Genesis Evangelion or Madoka Magica, which are sad so deconstruction
