elementary is pretty good

I haven't read any non-Doyle renditions, so unfortunately I don't have a /lit/ answer. But as far as filmed versions go, the Granada TV show with Jeremy Brett is fantastic. Best filmed Holmes I can think of.

>Granada TV show with Jeremy Brett is fantastic
Jeremy Brett is the quintessential Holmes. He really is amazing as Holmes, but how is Watson? I forget how they portrayed him, but shows back then had this weird thing about portraying Watson as this dumpy retard for some reason.

It portrays Watson fairly accurately to the source material. He's not as quick and astute as Holmes when it comes to deduction, but he's far from stupid.

That's good.
I'd still suggest checking out Elementary as well. Despite the initial reservations about it, it's actually well done, and the portrayal of Holmes is very humanizing.

Is Cumberbatch Holmes any good?
>>9826664
Why?
>>9826669
It starts out okay, but then you realize that he's just a fucking asshole. Like, all the Sherlock's are a little autistic, a little distant, but they all want to help. That's always the motivation of every Sherlock, regardless of how inept they are at social interaction. Cumberbatch is just a raging douche. Also, people get really pissed at how obnoxiously NOT GAY watson is. That doesn't sound like an issue, but apparently they keep interrupting the story to just throw in a random scene so Watson can say that he's definitely not gay
