A guide for the perplexed

You won't regret it, though if you're already on the bottom row the top row might not seem like much.
What's the theme here? A lot of those things have no connection to each other, even inside the mediums you're picking there is no resemblance between the examples.

Peep Show might be my favorite comedy series of all time, currently on my 4th re-watch

V nice thank you
What is dwarf fortress? I've heard of it but don't know anything about it.
>>9813492
a brilliant dwarf community builder with a programmer that only is interested in content and programming but not accessibility, UI, or graphics
>>9813492
It's like SimCity 2000. A city manager of sorts but in a fantasy setting and with bad graphics.
The book section is alright, but everything else is garbage.
made some adjustments. r8 & h8
>>9813922
nice change to the films
>>9813337
>I'm a stupid faggot: the list
>>9813941
It's the whole reason I made the adjustments in the first place. OP's pic is an awful intro to film, and everybody's seen Full Metal Jacket.
>>9813974
Unlike that never talked about hidden gem The Thing
>>9813337
why is there an anime section you fucking cretins
>>9813922
While good films most of the ones you added are incredibly slow and sure to turn off someone trying to get into it. While I wouldn't want to do without these slow and thoughtful films, I am of the opinion that movies that choose to convey their themes through fun and excitement are far more valuable. The Iliad and Odyssey are fun as shit and that's a big reason why they've lasted.
Never seen Rules of the Game though so thanks for the rec, I'll check it out.
>>9813337
As I lay dying is not for starters
wow that's garbage
>>9813337
Why is that chart so random? What is the standard for this "starter pack"? What the fuck is Rez doing there, for example? It's far from a starter pack game.

Why The Turin Horse?
Why Rectify?
Why Half-Life 2 when 1 is enough?
>Super Meat Boy
>Counter-Strike
I can't believe you'd include this shit next to HL1, Baldur's Gate etc
And where is Deus Ex?
Why only three works that are after BCE?
>Mr Bligh's Bad Language
I see. 8/10 you gave away it was bait at the very end
r8
>>9814918
I chose everything based on accessibility, critical reception, and diversity. All the video games are available to Mac, PC, Linux, are included in many top lists, but are also games I've played and know are good. Super Meat Boy was the indie game choice. Mr Bligh's Bad Language is a narrative nonfiction history told as a play; it's not a troll, it's the choice of theater. The Turin Horse was the foreign film choice. Counter Strike was the multiplayer game choice. And so on.
>>9814977
You're insane if you consider Mr Bligh's Bad Language essential, and not Don Quixote and certain other works. Not to mention Republic and Nicomachean Ethics are enough when it comes to the greeks.
Cave Story is a way better indie choice because it's an actual good game and the most impactful and essential when it comes to indies.
The multiplayer choice should be Unreal Tournament or Quake 3, and you're missing Doom 1.
>>9814992
I've never read Don Quixote. The list is also based on what I've consumed and know is good, so maybe as I get older it'll get better; it was only a few weeks ago that I started on it.
>>9815018
It's alright. It's impossible to be well-versed in every medium, I myself am not versed in any.
>>9814845
I agree with some of the criticisms here, so I looked at my list closer and made the following changes.
>replaced Rectify with The Wire
>replaced Baldur's Gate II with Planescape: Torment (I forgot that I didn't want to have sequels in the list)
>removed Half Life 2 (don't know what to replace it with yet; will take me awhile to think about)
>replaced Phaedo with Iliad
>replaced Mr Bligh's Bad Language with Moby-Dick (the greatest Great American Novel)
>>9814932
You're taste in music is terrible the rest is okay i guess.
The anon with Townes Van Zandt had it good though I always miss Rain Dogs on these charts.
>>9815763

>replaced The Peloponnesian War with Hamlet
