I'm like this too and hate it

>start reading 10 books
Why though? I limit myself to 2 at any time - one for day reading, one for bedside.

I didn't say at the same time. Start one, give up, start another, give up, etc...

Strictly reading 1 book at a time really changed how I read. Made me way more focused and way more likely to actually finish the book.

I envy you. I'm just not voracious enough of a reader to sit through 500 pages before interrupting it with something else. I've at least made it a habit to usually return to it, but I know I'd remember what I read better if I only read 1 or 2 books at a time

>buy more books.
>before you finish the last batch of books

It sounds more like you're reading books that you aren't genuinely interested in. Don't fall into the /lit/ circlejerk. If you can't bring yourself to enjoy tomes by Tolstoyevsky et al, then don't force yourself to. Reading is supposed to be enjoyable.
>I'm just not voracious enough of a reader to sit through 500 pages before interrupting it with something else.
If getting to a point where you wish to be is something you aim to do, work up to it by doing what I said above. Plenty of good short works out there. Getting the most out of reading requires full attention and concentration. Work and build it like a muscle.
>Own dozens of antique german books.
>Can barely read german so all of them are unread.
At least I have an excuse to learn german, I guess?
