Symposium is Plato at his best. The only superior work by him is Phaedo.

Symposium is good and so is Phaedo, however The Republic is the big dog. More questions come from The Republic than both Phaedo and Symposium put together. Nothing brings about discourse like the Republic.

The only parts worth considering are Socrates's speech about the Form of love, and the part by Alcibiades, which is comedy gold.
