Been thinking about how Dickens was supposedly quite popular in serialized form. Do you think that a decent author in this day and age could replicate that sort of success?
Seems to me that "prestige TV" shows (which are almost like serialized films, at least in their production quality) overtaking silver screen films in popularity points to the possibility of serialization as a way to bring literature back into mass culture. Thoughts?

No, that would involve too many people reading

I think so and desu it exists.
Harry Potter is ubiquitous. Ta Nehisi-Coates. Bestseller wall. Water cooler lit is about presenting an identity or being knowledgeable on the current meme, not sharing thoughts. Just like /lit/.

does it necessarily have to be HP-tier quality though?

HP is a special case because it's what a lot of grown adults read as youngsters. It is children's lit, but adults still talk about it when they talk about books.
It's accessible. That's what matters.
>you see that new meme?
>yeah, it's hilarious
This is now water cooler talk.
