Star Wars is an homage to the cinema serials of the thirties and forties. they were as camp as fuck, silly to the point of absurdity. Star Wars was never intended to be serious SF, and the reason it failed after episode V was their repeated attempts to make it serious.
Dune is a successful attempt at serious SF. it's not fashionable to say you like anything on 4chan, or you'll be attacked for it, so just crawl off somewhere and read the fucking thing for yourself.

you mean "lucas wanted to make something as good as dune, but all he could do was steal the idea of a desert planet."
No. The parts people praise it for, the allegory, the world building, are all shallow as fuck and the book is no more than a spiritual continuation of ER Burroughs golden age pulp. So it's a fun adventure weighed down by pretension and shoddy ability.
And yet if anyone solves this problem (Wolfe) it still can't transcend the derivative nature of science fiction even if it manages to be both fun and not dumb.

Im sure nobody would have imagined a planet comprised of one biome without Herbert, truly a pioneering visionary.

I'm reading Dune for the first time just now.
I hate Star Wars so in answer to your question- yeah you might like Dune despite hating SW.
I'd definitely recommend it.
