>once again, nothing is more cringe than LARPing revolution.

Sentry duty is a revolution in a country without sentries. I'm interested in both bypassing the gates unnoticed and having those sentries paid well.

>then I can get back to my art projects, my sublimation

Hello, goodbye. See you then.

>is beauty walking through the door any time soon? most def not.

The question is whether you have the capacity to have gratitude for the beauty that is there, knowing that without a small community of friends to share in that gratitude, you may go mad. Because you need to integrate that shit in this ridiculous symbolic mess you've made. You don't know beauty except the container its said to be held within, but if you unlock that container you must have the community around you to withstand what happens within that act of recognising true awe.

>but onscreen? it's Spartans vs Colossus all day.

Try the sentries. There are no better heroes currently, though I guess they aren't heroes actually. They are absurd in there quest that goes nowhere but the gates, back home to the family, and back to the gates. They are not detectives, they are those who follow rules, and only break them when they are villains or heroes. The consequence is boring. But they are tragic and beautiful. The absurdity might be too painfully "arty", but I think the aesthetics of a gate could help assuage some nerves for the time being.

>Film and Terror. never gets dull.

It gets dull. If you have a sense of the use of music in film and a taste for good literature, you can come to see the failings of film. It will come to wane, I'm sure, within my life. Especially if a new era of spectacle persists with socialising everyone within a pseudo-highschool experience, with the added bonus of random pep rallys and occasional explosions.

>Land's capital as the driving force is so so ridiculous. But the conversation is kept in check so that none can name the gods again. Been there, done that. Sold the merch. Got lots in the garage still left over from the 20th century.

>But there's also something else happening there.

A portal like a mouth that could either be a whale ready to take us to a city or a dragon ready to burn us all to the ground? I suspect what is there finds no occasion to be noticed, and so is likely not to have that type of thing to be concerned about it, that thing I occasionally call The Humane Parasite.

>an aestheticized polis.

Back to the gate. The interesting thing here is that the sentry stands not just between the outsiders and palace or what have you, but also the fleeing tyrants who do the gate harm. A thousand images of the arch would give you an idea of the ease at which the symbol could be loaded in many ways to expose your crimes, or whatever the fuck it is your self needs to legitimise.

>*tests,* you know. about that. overcoming. this kind of stuff. we're a long way from meme politics.

That was a good thread lads. This bit stuck with me:

>create good *people* and they'll find a way to band together. losing the idea of Muh Masses would be a good start. cultivate the individual and let them find their others, i'd say.

Why do public schools not teach Aristotle and Plato? Seriously, a gentle approach to education in critial thinking would solve a LOT of problems in the first world. Organon and the golden mean are the shit, and an abridged Plato talkin' bout the form of the good is not a bad place to start. Sure, it's moral instruction but what's the harm in that? Isn't running against the judicial system the fate of D- students of morality? Why are we watered like taxpaying plants guys really it's pissing me off.
>>
>>9794311
Expanding on this a bit isn't the function of the state the realization of the individual? Forget the apple pie and cannons malarky, I mean the reason government exists. It seems too often the state uses the people to its own ends contrary to the intent of the framers. And I mean in constitutional places like USA, France, and Britain, not homogeneous ethnic states like ancient Rome or Africa or whatever where tribe is more important that a piece of sheepskin.

>Hello, goodbye. See you then.
i dislike having my own tricks used on me. it occasionally reminds me that i don't know very much. which is wise. which is why it frequently sucks. and so on.

>The question is whether you have the capacity to have gratitude for the beauty that is there, knowing that without a small community of friends to share in that gratitude, you may go mad.
if you want to go fast, go alone. if you want to go far, go together. i went fast and got chewed up by a few river crocodiles on the way.

>Because you need to integrate that shit in this ridiculous symbolic mess you've made.
i'm glad to not have to be paying you $100/hour for this. not because it's not true. but because i have paid more than one person $100/hour for far worse advice.

>You don't know beauty except the container its said to be held within, but if you unlock that container you must have the community around you to withstand what happens within that act of recognising true awe.
i believe it. shit seems tortuously unlockable sometimes but no lock is unpickable in the great infinite prison-labyrinth. it's only a question of grinding.
>hnng grinding
>hang philosophy-as-roguelike
>make Wisdom Grinding great again

>try the sentries
i think i can kind of get this. maybe. are you describing a kind of stoicism?

>It gets dull
it does not

>It will come to wane, I'm sure, within my life.
the only distinction that matters is: auteur or no. shit made by auteurs stays fresh a lot longer. not every great film is made by an auteur, but the ones that aren't, age quickly.

>Especially if a new era of spectacle persists with socialising everyone within a pseudo-highschool experience, with the added bonus of random pep rallys and occasional explosions.
the point is not to ask about the plot, sometimes. the point is to inquire: why is this so popular? why do so many need this? what is in this experience that people feel they must have? we can't be critical about some things; something more like cultural phenomenology is required.

>that thing I occasionally call The Humane Parasite.
go on

>A thousand images of the arch would give you an idea of the ease at which the symbol could be loaded in many ways to expose your crimes, or whatever the fuck it is your self needs to legitimize.
i have this weird feeling that this is in fact an utterly brilliant thing to say. i don't quite understand all of it but i have a weird feeling that you are 1000% correct.

/lit/ fucks with my head sometimes.

>puzzles like the cup and ball that Rousseau talked about?
lycurgus > rousseau.

>the most effective measure against the love of money was Lycurgus' law that all meals had to be eaten together at public mess-halls
>this law was more than the rich could stand, so one day they got together and complained. angry words were followed by rocks, and lycurgus had to run for his life. he managed to outrun all of his assailants except one young man named alcander. when lycurgus turned to see who was behind him, alcander hit him in the face with a stick, blinding one eye. the others caught up and saw lycurgus with his bloody face and ruined eye. they were ashamed at what Alcander had done, and they gave him to lycurgus for punishment. lycurgus thanked them for saving him, then he took alcander into his house as his servant.
>in this position, alcander had a chance to see how gentle and hard-working lycurgus was, and from being an enemy he became an admirer and a friend. alcander told his friends and relatives that lycurgus was not as bad as they thought he was, but rather the most gentle man in the world. thus did lycurgus make this wild and violent young man one of the best citizens of sparta

that's very kind. i sometimes feel much the same way in these threads, tbqh...what god or thing in you was inspired?

>why do public schools not teach aristotle and plato?

i mean even plato says that you can take a pass on philosophy until 30. you know, after a good stint of military service and a lot of geometry.

i can kind of see his point. continental theory ofc you need a little existential skin in the game for, so there's no point talking about that with The Leaders of Tomorrow. but some nice clean logic & rhetoric? that's a good look. if you can.

basically tho you can only work w/what you got. that said, philosophy is capable of fixing a *lot* of problems. there would be no reason why you couldn't imagine a kind of Mary Poppins-like deity who can just fucking plato/aristotle your youth right into the fucking ground with logic. apparently wittgenstein's students - well, until he started beating the shit out of them - were falling all over themselves in class to answer questions. he was smart and they knew it.

i mean philosophy/education have a pretty good bromance. even the lycurgus story suggests this.

i don't know about moldbuggian hero-worship in *politics* but i think i can dig it in *education.*

>i think i can kind of get this. maybe. are you describing a kind of stoicism?

No. And possibly yes. The sacrifice within duty, and a duty which is absurd, which can only fail as a hero. I'm more interested in the inhuman hero that is the gate, and the tragedy that is the sentry. But maybe I'm just projecting Gormenghast into a just god.

>that thing I occasionally call The Humane Parasite.
>go on

An academic's joke begins to shape the world around him, begins to speak through him, and finally becomes an actual truth of the world. Imprisoned in a joke of his own making, the person can only become the parasite. *cue cosmic laughter* The twist in the plot structure is that there is no twist, that the person is not schizoid, that the world begins normally and unfolds by the parasite's logic into another world, and finally becomes that irreal world - and at that point, as I said, the person is no more, only the humane parasite remains to tell the story, the story of literature.

pic rel? how much rel? this is legit my bag and i am very interested in this, for obvious reasons.
>b/c scapegoating isn't scapegoating if you do it yo yourself, obviously
if not, plz explain further. i know star wars is a meme.

>An academic's joke begins to shape the world around him, begins to speak through him, and finally becomes an actual truth of the world
100% true.

>Imprisoned in a joke of his own making, the person can only become the parasite.
checks out. sort of like objet a in reverse. not quite tho.

>The twist in the plot structure is that there is no twist, that the person is not schizoid, that the world begins normally and unfolds by the parasite's logic into another world, and finally becomes that irreal world - and at that point, as I said, the person is no more, only the humane parasite remains to tell the story, the story of literature.
that's it. it sounds obscene, but - well - you essentially vomit yourself into existence.

i know this sounds incredibly fucked up, but think about cinema
>again
whenever you see someone *gagging and retching their guts out* it's often the precursor to some kind of change. there's deep deep symbolism there.

gotta cough it up i guess. body horror a thing. but that's freud for you. the matrix, alien, all that...

>why movies so much? why not /lit/erature?
b/c Spectacle, i think. the camera not only teaches us what to desire, but how to desire it. serious surgical incisions into reality & collective unconscious.

also b/c movies are Fun.

>witty... easy on the smarts
this makes me sad. he was exceptional and his students loved him for it. most childrens teachers are ordinary smallfolk who get love by inheriting parental fiat or small indulgences against that fiat, not instruction. i believe our wealthy infrastructure allows wonders and the case for a simplified children's course in critical thinking needs to be made. it is the smallest change with the greatest positive effect on the republic.

>lycander & alcurgus
i mean in fairness the story is *mildly* ridiculous. one moment the Rich are chasing lycurgus and pelting him with rocks. a moment later he is hit in the face with a Stick and - suddenly - everyone is utterly ashamed. ofc this is explained easily enough by wrath, i suppose, lycurgus turning upon the guys who are chasing him. it doesn't really matter. it's still an awesome story, but that excerpt i used doesn't quite do it justice.

but it does indicate why one should use the original source material rather than whatever the fuck blog i took that from.
