Les Miserables is pretty /lit/.
Maybe, I think most are just autism distractions though.
Operas can. No currently existing musicals are comparable.
Plays can be lit so yes.
Yes, but for the most part musicals, like television, are formulaic and meant to adhere to audience expectation. Where theatre has, or had, many genres and modes of telling a story, musicals are generally constructed as superficially similar to one another as possible. Additionally, they're held captive by using songs to tell stories, which results in even more formulaic plots that necessitate things like "I am" songs, "I want" songs, and "villain" songs that don't different much.
"Good" musicals are usually based on outside work adapted to the stage, Les Miserables being the quintessential example.

Yes, Sondheim is /lit/
A Little Night Music, Pacific Overtures, and Into the Woods are good shows to explore after Sweeney and Assassins, each has a professional filmed version on YouTube. Once used to his style, check out Follies, Merrily We Roll Along, Passion, and Sunday in the Park with George.

Hey, its the collective soul guy!
As memey as t had become, Rocky Horror Picture Show is very /lit/ in my opinion. It explores concepts like unbridled hedonism, sexuality, and what it means to be alive all within a story that draws heavily on Genesis and Frankenstein.
