How do I write a cyberpunk novel?
>>
by not being born after 1970
>>
have your characters wear a lot of velcro
>>
This genre is dead, think of something a-new
>>
>>9790715
Copy and paste an old one, and then change every word to its synonym
>>
>>9790734
>not revitalizing a genre
>not pushing a genre in a direction it's never gone before

Get off my website, you unimaginative brainlet.
>>
>>9790751
>the great revitalization began with a post on /lit/ "how do i write a cyberpunk novel".
srsly, we must discourage the shit out of OP
>>
>>9790751
At least get the spacing right, reddit-kun
>>
>>9790734
There aren't that many good cyberpunk novels honestly. Neuromancer and Snow Crash.
>>
>>9790816
If OP really wants to make cyberpunk xe should just ignore what I said.
But cyberpunk was a child of its time, and times have changed, so while you can be inspired by cyberpunk, it would still be a-different.
>>
>cyberpunk
is the a more reddit-esque aesthetic?
>>
>>9790832
Explain how you arrived at this conclusion.
>>
>>9791217
>Explain how you arrived at this conclusion.
It could be bullshit as far as I'm concerned. If you look at past science and technology you'll find that this influenced how thinkers saw the world, like how Descartes thought of animals as machines, or how it is now common to see the mind as an algorithm.

There are still themes from cyberpunk that are relevant, but as our technology and science has changed, so would the themes.
That's my best argumentation, and I'm fine if you discard it because I was being tongue-in-cheek at first.

With Cyberpunk 2077 coming out there's gonna be a lot of renewed interest in the genre
>>
I want to read a psyco-cyerpunk novel. Something like Hesse's Steppenwolf but with all modern chemical drugs and internets. Do you know any?

>tfw you have been trying to do exactly this for years & it has ruined your fucking life & if & when you finish it will be a nigh-unreadable from the many continentalfag lobotomies you have performed on yourself to do this
>still tho
>gotta finish what you start

i shit you not this is exactly what i am trying to do & have been for some time. it is full of drugs and insects and third-rate philosophyfag mysticism. it's in a big desert & full of madness & violence

it will suck. but this is the vibe i am going for. whatever neo-cyberpunk is. people fucked up by being wired in

People said that about Shadowrun and Deus Ex.

Hehe I'm writing a cyberpunk Burroughsian remix of Revelations. Trying to work out the perspective of it. Kind of like a Mecha "War and Peace" by way of Dante's Divine Comedy reimagined as a panopticon.

something something ultra capitalist mega cities with super large hologram advertisements everywhere covering up a filthy underbelly of poverty and crime with meathead cops who work for bought and paid for politicians, and culture in general has become homogenized, basic and crass etc.
Cyberpunk is lame because it's so strictly defined, both in terms of it's setting and the general themes it typically deals with. It's like Steampunk but mildly socially acceptable for some reason
>>
>>9791342
So do you know any worth books in such style? À rebours of Huysmans popped up in my head but it's a nineteen century setting again. I think third-rate philosophyfag mysticism, drug abuse and solitude with a lot of online talking will be fine together.
>>
>>9791478
pic rel ofc

i mean for fiction the best stuff is always mind-popping. musil, joyce, borges, kafka, melville...dante, milton...
>fucking Space Melville when

find the others.
>better yet *write* the others
>hnng

>i think third-rate philosophyfag mysticism, drug abuse and solitude with a lot of online talking will be fine together

can sort of confirm

Steampunk.

At least cyberpunk has some merit, unlike >>9792567 and other -punk garbage that was born after cyberpunk got popular.

I don't think it is a mistake to consider sympathetic magic when you are asking about non-linear growth, metastasis, synchronicity and achronicity; I don't understand why Old Nick is taking accelerationism in the direction he is, reactionary, recursive, the work of an archivist not a living breathing thinker; why not apolitical terrorism, the aesthetics of terror and the like? I am not a pro Lander at this point so maybe I've missed it; it is all well and good to imagine ideas have no impact on the world, a much more courageous approach is the psychotic notion that ideas have a very direct impact on the world around us which leads me back to taking superstition seriously and practicing it studiously. Ken Anger made pornographic films because that is the most Verite form of Verite and he wanted to show us the Satanic superstitions of some very important people and how to do them. Ever learned a thing or two about fucking from a porn? Same idea. The fact that he had mick jagger making music for his obtuse art house jags is not insignificant when you consider that Mick Jagger had an iconic stature at the time.

When cyberpunk works, it is very engrossing. I wish there was more quality material out there.
>>
>>9791474
if people thought of cyberpunk as more "high-tech, low-life" and less as "generic modern city with flashy lights and some undeveloped sci fi elements", it would be a lot better.

With that simple description you can do a lot, few seem to use it though, at least not anyone popular. I genre is a kind of shit because it's too limited by early popular works.
>>
>>9790715
Have there been any nonshitty cyberpunk novels?

If so, could I get some recs?
>>
>>9790715
Always start out with a good but simple plot and then fill in the rest with what you want (as long as its not overbearing or tangential to the plot).
>>
>>9793765
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
This is a good start
>>
>>9794482
Will I be able to enjoy it if I've seen Bladerunner?
>>
>>9795677
Yes, I've watched the movie and I'm reading the book now and the only similarities are androids and a bounty hunter killing them
>>
>>9795741
Awesome. I'll definitely check it out.
>>
>>9795677
The two have basically nothing in common aside from being set in the same world and characters having the same name.
>>
How is your novel coming along OP?
