ITT: Questions that don't deserve their own thread.
Ask stupid questions about literature and other anons will answer them for you.

Which should be read first, the Prose Edda or the Poetic Edda?

What's a good OpenCourseWare school where I can take enough literature/creative writing courses to essentially have a lit/creative writing degree? How is MIT OCW? Any others you'd suggest?
>>
Is there any website where I have a bigger selection of books to download than bookzz.org?
>>
>>9787321
There is nothing fewer than one, which is a few(least)
>1 = few (least)
>2 = fewest x 2 (many)

If 2 = many, 1 must = plurality (least, but still multiple)
So there is no singular, just a "nothing fewer" variable, of which double(2) would equal many.
>>
>>9787371
Few can't be a singular, right? So if two is already a many (an excess of singulars) then one is less than that but still a plurality of singulars?

I am sick and tired of this. Every day I come to /lit/, and every day there is at least one thread up with an OP image of an attractive woman dressed scantily and posing seductively. It's probably the same one or two people who do it honestly. Let me tell you something, you faggot pieces of shit who are doing this: you are the poster child for everything that is wrong in literature, art, and society as a whole today. You are incapable of coming up with anything creative, thought provoking, or of substance, and you lack even the smallest modicum of intelligence, so you use "style" and "flash" and pizazz in place of it and to draw attention to yourself, because that's the only way your SHIT "creation" and ideas would ever get seen by anyone. And before you say anything, this has NOTHING to do with the fact that I don't have a girlfriend. Anyway, I will be petitioning the owner of this website to ban your asses, so enjoy being able to post here while it lasts, because it's not going to last long, just like you that one time you convinced an obese girl to let you fuck her.
>>
>>9787457

>>
>>9787396
No. Numbers don't exist, they are a concept that must be applied to something. But you can't apply a singular concept to something inherently plural, like water or fire or other fluids and materials.
"Two" means twice as much as "one".
So if "two" is many, that means "one" is few, but there's nothing smaller than that measure of "few". You can't have one water or one fire, but you can have twice as much as your smallest measure of water or fire. He's just refitting numbers to accommodate plurality by erasing the singular concept, so 1 = few(least), 2 = many(twice as much as the least).

Like if you have one 2"x4"x10' piece of wood, that's "one" but that's actually kind of a lot of wood, but your measuring in increments of 10 feet so it's technically"one". So "two" is a shitload of wood, but we call it "two" because we're measuring a plurality; you can't have "one wood", you have to redefine "one" as "the smallest measure" rather than "singular", and go from there- "two" is twice as many as the smallest measure, "three" is triple the smallest measure, etc.

I get this, but for Mediterranean girls.
I don't know what it is but I just can't get myself to give a shit about conventional white girls. Aryans or whatever. Probably because I'm so saturated with beach girls here, I'm just not attracted to them anymore. Latina/Mediterranean/mulatto(mulatta?) Is God-tier because there's more substance to their character. White girls have to subscribe to some style of interest like hipsters or punks or whatever to piggyback interesting character traits

I know your sufferings. Brown girls are 10/10 from the Spanish/Portuguese iberian to more Semitic Lebanese, Iranian. Armenian -- there's something about that specific look that is so godly. A lot of songs and art have been written about it. It's usually called oriental/gypsy/bohemian. The only criticism is that these people are quite hairy, but even that I find kind of alluring.
>>
>>9787813
Ghetto black chicks are amazing because they actually like to fuck. For example, if you tell a qt ghetto black gf that you like to eat pussy, she'll have a whole fun genuine reaction to it and sexually engage you and be sassy and everything. If you tell a white girl you like to eat pussy, half the time, they'll just respond like
>ummm OK u can do that if u want i guess . when r u going to add me on snap? :S

Fucking hell white women are such awful hags most of the time. At least East Asian women are frigid enough that it loops around and becomes fun again, because they're SO frigid, so unused to physical intimacy, that they have no way of quarantining and harmlessly integrating your aggressive sexual advances and weird kinks. If you tell your chinky gf that you want to eat her nonexistent ass with gusto, she'll be so terrified by it that she'll have to authentically interact with it, and then she'll genuinely learn to enjoy it.

This doesn't apply to twinkies of course. They're the worst of all. Asian women raised in Western countries are just white women. Even worse, because they have the soulless status-obsessed materialism of their Asian parents, with none of the traditional propriety that goes with it. They're thoughtless skanks, like most white women, but they're also as maternal and nurturing as a scorpion. Men are literally just wallets. The only thing that matters in life is getting your Microbiology BSc and living in a sterile fucking suburban prison with a piano.

their promiscuity in the bed and openness about sex isn't just a stereotype, well it is but some are just true. Black people usually don't have any weird hangups about sex. And yea, most are christian and have traditional values, sadly they don't practice them and that's how we end up with a majority of black mothers being single.

"Thoughts for the Times on War and Death" is a similar, helpful, and shorter work that is good if you want to get your feet wet before diving into a book-length text.

Keep in mind that these are some of Freud more overtly political texts and should be read with that understanding. C&D is best for an overview of Freud's world view, but not for the understanding of Freudian psychoanalysis as such. That said, if you find yourself reading C&D and nodding along, wanting to know more, than you'll know you'll want to read more about psychoanalysis.

For my part, I recommend getting a copy (any edition is fine) of Peter Gay's "The Freud Reader." Breaks down the Freud cannon to its most digestible without editorialisation beyond the selection of the choicest passages from each work.

Within reason. If you're a chubby loser in your moms basement then no.
However, if you have a proper job (not a shitty Mcjob), don't dress too bad, aren't a social retard, i.e. if you have your shit together enough that some women would date you, then you can get much hotter black chicks than you would be able to get white chicks.
Like it or not white privilege is kind of a thing; you have a status and a cache that a black guy on the same level doesn't have. A white guy is more of a 'catch' to a black girl. Think of it as if you were earning an extra $25,000 annually.

that's some of it, but part of the reason you "outperform" with women of color is because you are "defamiliarized" so whatever shitty patterns you fell into with the white chicks you grow up with, you brain sort of gets a reset and you can have a new approach with your added life experience instead of just the same dumb patterns from high school or college repeating, it's all spooky ideology stuff that is subconscious but it's definitely a factor

derrida is like the shittiest guy to read, you can just slowly work your way through from the beginning since it literally starts with the greeks, so you have everything you need to build up your knowledge of aesthetics and literary theory to get to the most recent pomo shit, or you can pick and choose what you like since it's also split in sections like "formalism", "marxism", "structuralism" etc. but that's only the last third "modern and contemporary theory" section, the first 2/3rds is just old shit from across the centuries, and the difficulty varies from very accessible to practically impossible. it's actually the textbook for this class so you can always follow along with the lectures:

I have a complete works of Plato I've been meaning to read, but in the annotations of my current book it oft mentions Plato's critiques, if not outright lambasting of the Greek gods.

So: should I perhaps read the Iliad to give myself frame of reference instead of going "???" every time Plato draws a reference, for a clearer understanding of his material?

Or maybe the emphasis on his comments on the gods are not actually so elaborated upon in his dualogues? I don't know. Help!

My translation of the Iliad is E. V. Rieu is that good or what
>>
>>9796121
Not particularly, I think he's the guy who ran the Penguin Classics series and the Iliad was the flagship edition or something. He's pretty good. A lot of people naturally had him as their first read. But /lit/ would probably recommend you read Fitzgerald.

I always feel bad for Rieu because he's seen as the PLEB DEFAULT PENGUIN EDITION for no reason. He's OK.

Fitzgerald, Fagles and Lattimore get common recs here. Fitzgerald is the best for a new reader, prose preserves the structure and lexical style of the poem the best. Verse translations are better if you like prettier writing, but as the meme man says, "It isn't Homer".

Whatever translation you read, also read their Odyssey and Aeneid unless you just can't stand it

For the last time: the ontological difference is the starting point of Sein und Zeit, not the conclusion. The beginning, not the end. And yes, for millennia philosophers did believe in God.

Congratulations, you have just found out the reason Start with the Greeks charts do not start with bloody Plato. And don't skip on the Presocratics either.

Guys what is the most /lit/ thing you've ever done?
I personally have an entire resume of them but my most recent one was this

>be me
>enroll in uni at 23 declare for STEM
>get within 2 semesters of my EE degree
>take a high level language course
>BTFO the actual language major kiddies
>start getting special attention from teacher
>she's a harvard qt
>check her published books out of the library and read them in my spare time
>go to office hours to discuss them with her
>starts falling in love with me
>get her to write scholarship letters for me promising that i will keep visiting her
>get lots of opportunities
>drop out b/c it gets too boring

nice anon you brought the thread back to being /lit/ and made some pretty good points too

I'm well aware, it's just that for some reason, these two lines kinda resonate with me and I was wondering what a /lit/-dweller would think. Also their other lyrics are usually quite straight forward.

Does anyone get headaches from certain books? I have the hardcover version of the Didache Bible but it's completely unreadable. After just a few minutes I can feel a headache coming on and I don't know why. It's the only book that has ever done this to me. The paper, font, and formatting aren't all that different from other books so it's a mystery.

Well the only book I've ever read by Williams is "Butcher's Crossing" which I only read as it was part of the /lit/ western meme trilogy. After I finished it I then read the 2nd part of the trilogy "Warlock" by Oakley Hall which I thought was fantastic.

So read Warlock.

someone please help me! I have a test tomorrow on this.
does anybody know any piece of literature (or other media like film for art) that deals with discovery?
~the main char. needs to make a discovery early on
~the rest of the work should be about dealing with the discovery, exploring how the discovery has changed things
quadruple bonus points if it also deals with themes of isolation and a desire to connect, I have to pair it with Robert Frost poetry like mending wall and tuft of flowers.
