I was going to read this until I realized it was part of a trilogy.
Why can't fantasy writers just make stand alone books every once in a while?
>Hamlet
There is no greater work.
Anything else is juvenile compared to it.

Because most of the work that goes into writing a fantasy novel is world-building. Why would you throw away all that work by writing only 1 novel in that universe?

John Dies at the End
It's not good. In fact, It irritates me sometimes, but those kind of surrealist horror-comedies are so hard to come by. If anyone has any similar books they know, I'd love to hear them.
Demian
God Emperor of Dune

JDATE was fun because from the opening pages, I knew that I grew up near where the story was set. When I did some research, it turned out that I was right.
Jason Pargin (David Wong) turned into a royal douche SJW in the past few years and it really turned me off of reading anything else he wrote. But you're right, that kind of genre is kinda hard to find. The closest you're going to find is something like Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files series or one of it's many copycats.
Blood Meridian.
It's the only book I've wanted to straight up start over the minute I finished it.

Yeah, that seems to be a common issue with online personalities in the few years, but I tend to separate creator and creation as much as I can. Book three is apparently coming out this year? and I'm going to get it as soon as possible anyway. It really is jdate- I didn't like his other book very much.
