Is it actually worth it to participate? Will it make you a better writer? If yes, in which ways?
Feel free to share your experiences if you have any

I'll never make it. My entire life is a fucking joke. I am a joke. I'll never amount to anything. I'll never produce anything worth saving. I'm a degenerate virgin loser who'll be completely forgotten 2 months after his death. I'm fully aware of that. So, did you participate?
I can't believe it's been another year. I feel like I've been moving forward but I'm facing the same problems I was last year. I hope there will be resolution or some kind of achievement to speak of.

Totes, dude! It's fucking ZASSICAL if I may say so myself!
Listen up, bucko: These 30 days will be the hardest time of your life. Almost as hard as having no money when steam sale is coming!!
I remember waking up one day and wanting to write but the coffee machine was broken xDDD Can't write without my covfefe (if you got this reference: Have a cookie, good sir!) Man, I remember how CRINGY I felt that day, almost forgot that I was gonna vote liberal #HillMissile B)
But anyways: Writing is like living: You either do it, or you pussy out. I remember the first time my girlfriend took her first BBC. I could have looked away but that wouldn't have been very progessive, get whatimsayin? So I endured. And now we're married! Always remember that no matter what happens
KEEP CALM
AND PREP THE BULL
But let's get back to business (you know Wolf of The Wallstreet? That shit was W O K E). I know how you feel, anxious.
>What if my work sucks? I'll never be as good as Tolkien and Rowling...
Chill, dude. It's okay. If you ever feel like it's too much for you:

Anyways: chill out, have fun and don't forget to be fucking ZASSICAL

Ironic shitposts are still shitposts. Leave.
OP, if you don't have personal discipline, it's a great way to force you into working. If you are decent at consistently motivating yourself, it's not going to do much.

These people have not been published since their fucking high school literary journal and want to shit on you because you may actually try to write something. Ignore them.

I got published last week gay boy.
I wasn't bashing nanofuckobuttomore or whatever though. It's like anything, it's what you make out of it. It could be a waste of time, or it could be a valuable experience, really depends on what your ideas are and if you have a good attitude going into it.
If you have to ask others how you should feel about doing it, then you're probably going into it with the wrong mindset to start with.
