Does anyone else not take Literary culture seriously at all? It seems to have devolved in to its own hideous subculture, distinct from regular people and, unlike specialised academia relating to STEM or business, devoid of any bullshit/rigour detector. Not that I'm saying it should have one, but we have reached a cul-de-sac in terms of fashion, a monopoly by leftists, idiots, bullshitters, nu males.
Why should I care about the ennui if Oxbridge / ivy league grads? Why am I abused for pointing out that publishers come from the same milieu of guardian / new Yorker writers who fill articles with horrific bullshit?
I don't see books as something that should contain "insights". I read them for enjoyment. Of course academics don't like to hear that as it doesn't facilitate the production of "literary critiques" aiming at citations.
I don't read for enjoyment at all, only for practicality. Art for artsake is useless and useless shit is cut out of plants by gardeners because it's trash.

>Literary culture
Do you mean:
Ivy types with rich parents who study what they love, since their job will be limited to monthly appearances at trust meetings?
Hipster poetry and literary critique sessions in major cities?
People in flyoverland who travel about to antiquarian book shops?
People in small towns doing book clubs?
Hidden 4channers reading award winners in the privacysanctuaryof their stinking abodes?
Hidden Redditors reading the same books at the beach?
Male and female wageslaves reading on city subways?

/lit/ isn't literary culture. This place hardly constitutes as "culture". It's a bunch of people ironically shitposting and intellectual posturing for (You)s.

protip:all Academics are pseuds
oxbridge had (maybe they still have) levels of degrees, regular, 3rd class, 2nd class, 1st class
1st and 2nd mean you actually contributed to society in a substantial way, most of the people who get them barely give a shit about literature
