Does anyone else not take Literary culture seriously at all? It seems to have devolved in to its own hideous subculture, distinct from regular people and, unlike specialised academia relating to STEM or business, devoid of any bullshit/rigour detector. Not that I'm saying it should have one, but we have reached a cul-de-sac in terms of fashion, a monopoly by leftists, idiots, bullshitters, nu males.
Why should I care about the ennui if Oxbridge / ivy league grads? Why am I abused for pointing out that publishers come from the same milieu of guardian / new Yorker writers who fill articles with horrific bullshit?
I don't see books as something that should contain "insights". I read them for enjoyment. Of course academics don't like to hear that as it doesn't facilitate the production of "literary critiques" aiming at citations.

oxbridge had (maybe they still have) levels of degrees, regular, 3rd class, 2nd class, 1st class
1st and 2nd mean you actually contributed to society in a substantial way, most of the people who get them barely give a shit about literature
