pic related is a metaphor for grief/depression:
-a perpetual reminder of an untouchable, dead past
-the impossibility of a worryless, truly joyful moment
-the utter bankruptcy of anything approaching colour (in the metaphorical sense of the word)

Also, I was blown away by its prose:
>"In dreams his pale bride came to him out of a green and leafy canopy. Her nipples pipeclayed and her ribs painted white. She wore a dress of gauze and her dark hair was carried up in combs of ivory, combs of shell. Her smile, her downward eyes. In the morning it was snowing again. Beads of small grey ice strung along the light wires overhead."

Would I enjoy Blood Meridian?
>>
The Road is an anti-nihilistic work. Reading it as a downer betrays that you missed its point entirely.

If you enjoyed the road you would enjoy blood meridian MUCH more, and would also enjoy all of mccarthy's works
>>
>>9761877
>Would I enjoy Blood Meridian?

Nah. I think the theme of regeneration by violence is not nearly as accessible as the loss and grief expressed in the road.

>pic related is a metaphor for grief/depression:
It's a meditation on morality.
>>
>>9761877
>Would I enjoy Blood Meridian?

As someone who has lived the myth of regeneration by violence, I can tell you it's a bunch of bullshit.

Whisky doesn't make you strong, it lowers your testosterone. Gunplay and bloody violence is not life affirming, it scars you forever. Riding into a moonscape without adequate water is stupid, not brave. McCarthy is the most overrated pseud I can think of. Blood Meridian is trash.
>>
>>9762347
>lived the myth
haha

>regeneration through violence
you plebs keeps memeing this as if the blurb on the cover of BM is the end-all of interpretation thereof -- what happens in the book is hardly affirmative in any sense of anything, least of all violence or life
>>
>>9762357
hate it when the blurb or wikipedia plebtier interpretation of a text suddenly becomes the One True Reading
>>
>>9761877
I think you're reading into the book too much, have you considered it's meant to be taken literally and as a story?

I haven't read The Road yet, but Cormac's books strike me as more raw emotion.
>>
>>9762357
you haven't read the book faggot. it's on the cover for a reason, dummy. these fictional buckos go around scalping and raping and looting and never tire of it. mccarthy didn't know what the fuck he was talking about. i'm telling you: this is not an accurate representation of what happens to the american male in reality.
>>
>>9762408
what happens to Glanton, dummy?
what happens to the kid?
>>
>>9762408
>this is not an accurate representation of what happens to the american male in reality.

no shit it's wild west archetypes and american mythology, way to miss the point ya fucking pseudlord
>>
>>9762415
both dead faggot.

stop trying to defend BM. it is a flaky old academic's murderporn.

>>9762426
Why even read if you misunderstand things this badly?
>>
>>9762347
Violence gets results to the degenerates found in blood meridian, most of them have regressed to animals, so they don't see it as anything other than a tool and fact of life.

>it's another mccarthy thread turns into autists arguing about the point of blood meridian for the nth time
>>
>>9762437
what else is there to mention, bleakness and nice prose?
>>
>>9762432
sorry, guess i'll just stay quiet and let you get a stiffy over some rhode island yankee's exploration of texas lore. get hard faggot, he's ignorant enough to confuse a ball (or minie ball) for a bullet halfway through the book. he's a pseud. you're a pseud. enjoy your second rate western.
>>
>>9762436
yes and that is precisely why i have a problem with mccarthy. humans do not thrive as animals. they break down. glorifying it into a kind of modern myth is just... it doesn't say anything about the past or the present. it's just a ridiculous love letter to inhumanity, and unrealistic besides. i'd rather read homer for the 10th time.
>>
>>9761877
Blood Meridian is my favorite book, one of few I've read 3X. Highly recommended, friend.

"To the west the cloudbanks stood above the mountains like the dark warp of the very firmament and the starsprent reaches of the galaxies hung in a vast aura above the riders' heads."

"They rode in a narrow enfilade along a trail strewn with the dry round turds of goats and they rode with their faces averted from the rock wall and the bakeoven air which it rebated, the slant black shapes of the mounted men stenciled across the stone with a definition austere and implacable like shapes capable of violating their covenant with the flesh that authored them and continuing autonomous across the naked rock without reference to sun or man or god."
>>
>>9762458
>humans do not thrive as animals.
Literally everyone died except for literally satan.
>>
>>9762458
>glorifying violence is bad and inhuman
>i'd rather read homer
...
>>
>>9762465
ppl always whine about his prose but that was p dank if u ax me, think im gonna finally break out my copy and give it a read, since everything else i've started lately sucked ass
>>
>>9762465
I have a few favorite passages but this one is most memorable:

>We were half mad anyways. All lined up. Delawares and all. Every man save Glanton and he was a study. We hauled forth our members and at it we went and the judge on his knees kneadin the mass with his naked arms and the piss was splashin about and he was cryin out to us to piss, man, piss for your very souls for cant you see the redskins yonder, and laughin the while and workin up this great mass in a foul black dough, a devil's batter by the stink of it and him not a bloody dark pastryman himself I dont suppose and he pulls out his knife and he commences to trowel it across the southfacin rocks, spreadin it out thin with the knifeblade and watchin the sun with one eye and him smeared with blacking and reekin of piss and sulphur and grinnin and wieldin the knife with a dexterity that was wondrous like he did it every day of his life. And when he was done he set back and wiped his hands on his chest and then he watched the savages and so did we all.
>>
>>9762470
homer at least is received by the modern audience as ancient marvel capeshit, not contemporary literature that supposedly has something to say about the nature of man

>>9762469
sure, but the end does not justify the ridiculousness of the tale in its telling

>>9762465
his prose is nice. too nice. still haven't found a definition for awap.
>>
>>9762347
So a former-gang-member-turned-american-lit-savant has some firm opinions about one of the greatest books of our time. Please go on and tell us how The Alchemist changed your life.
>>
>>9762509
>gang member

guess again faggot. and read the thread, i've given my criticism. mccarthy is a yankee and literary carpetbagger. BM does not deserve critical praise.
>>
>>9762494
>ancient marvel capeshit
Good to see anon from the dark souls thread is still here
>>
>>9762612
not me, guy. capeshit is a common term for marvel movie garbage.

I did not interpret Blood Meridian this way at all. The story did not glorify violence so much as it used violence as a tool to explore its thematic elements. There is no way you were supposed to read this and be like, oh hey these people are so badass sure was fun shootin' 'em up in the ol' west!

Blood Meridian was very anti-romantic and I think you kind of missed the point.
>>
>>9762660
>Blood Meridian was very anti-romantic

You are EXACTLY correct. But these 4chan brainlets go on about the ultraviolence having some deeper meaning. It doesn't.
>>
Blood Meridian is one of the few books that I think I enjoyed fully aesthetically, I have no idea what Cormac was trying to say but it was fun to read. I really liked the chapter where the judge was chasing the kid across the desert
