Why are drugs crime and crackpots so popular in American arts?
Metaphor.
The American dream has been smothered with the capitalist's dream and we are run by the world's largest mafia.
Conscious and unconscious metaphor leaks out of the arts head, and the work tries to inform, or warn us as it entertains

Interesting but crime isn't really a metaphor in a society where millions are imprisoned at any given time.
Perhaps they're, you know, entertaining? Perhaps Cops and Robbers will always be entertaining, drugs will always be an escape, crackpots will always be alienating yet familiar? fuck metaphor, why can't we just for once like something for its own sake?

Do you ever ask yourself why you are entertained by something or what makes something entertaining?
>>9756361
can entertainment only exist through its metaphorical sense? what a stupid implication.
>>9756370
I didn't even imply that :/
>>9756379
well a relief then, as it would be nonsense.
entertainment depends on the subject, naturally. some like ASMR underwater Talmud readings. what appeals depends on what emotional state one finds themselves in upon the interception of whatever format through which this entertainment filters. as to what entertains us at its core is similar to asking why we laugh when we find something funny. a very difficult question.

I know it is difficult, and almost absurd to ask of oneself. But if I'm entertained by crime why is that? To me it seems obvious that it is a vicarious thrill. The thrill of being a party to violence with no consequences. Freud thought smiles and jokes were inherently aggressive. You were saying above that we should take entertainment at face value, but I don't see how we can. Entertainment represents a huge part of our economy, of our subjective experiences and our memory; and by extension our selves. If we are entertained and don't ask why we are allowing something to override us, we are nothing but passive receptacles.
What really bothers me is why we were so into torture porn.

I still can't fully understand the BDSM crowd, but it's an obsession with the taboo and the authoritarianism.
After an anarchist world revolution, I think these traits would fade away though.

Why not just say after anime is real?

You are the worst tripfag I've ever seen

Depression era, and a censorship code that required a specific treatment of villains and immoralities which only ended up generating a backlash.

I honestly would like to know why you believe that it is simply impossible that anime might become real in some way. And I commented as someone who was once a member of the IWW. Anarchism will never catch on and no system uses ideology ever will again. It's like what Foucault said about mental institutions, when we tear down the walls it risks that the institution metastasizes into our homes, our hearts, etc. Revolutions were abandoned for good reason, because they always caused a great deal of suffering.
