To criticise the book's symbolism of roundness you may as well criticise Moby Dick for its fixation with whales. In fact, the parallels between the two books are great, and the Story of the Eye (like your dick) is very short and Moby Dick is very long (like my dick). The story is well-constructed, the action is exciting and interesting, the descriptions are beautiful. If you dislike Story of the Eye, I can't imagine why you bother reading books, to be honest.

i'd recommend it, it's a beautifully written book about depravity. haven't read Sade because i'm not really that much into depraved stuff but i've heard that Sade is boring to read once you get the gimmick, but this is a short book so doesn't give time to get bored of it.

I've read it too. To me, it felt like a different version of the Sun Also Rises, a lot more incisive with more bite. Also the ending is really good.
