Both of Ross Perot's VP's were noteworthy in their own right. One was a Vice Admiral and the other was an Economist.
Chafee comes from a political family in the state of Rhode Island at that is part of how he got where he was. They were all liberal-moderate Rockefeller Republicans. He was a Senator who eventually became an independent Governor, and he eventually switched to the Democratic party.
Sure you know this somewhat but I'm posted it partially for OP or anyone else who might be interested. I'm also just a loser when it comes to this stuff so I know more than my own good probably.

Both of my examples I picked for hyperbole, and I knew Chafee had his own political success, but he won't even have a footnote in American gubernatorial politics nonetheless Presidential races. If he is the only American politician available in a country you can't deny there's an extreme, extreme lack of good options. I'd pick up any powerful congressman on either side of the aisle or a presidential aide before Chafee.
