ITT:
>estimated number of books you've read
>how you feel it has changed you
>which 3-5 books had the most influence on you
I'll go first:
>100, about a 50/50 split of fiction/nonfiction
>I feel a little more knowledgeable about the world and human interaction, and a few nonfiction books had actual tangible benefits to my life
>Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, ISOLT by Proust, The Brothers Karamazov, Siddhartha by Hesse oddly enough, and War of Art by Steven Pressfield
>around 10k
>no opinions on anything anymore
>don't know don't care
>I would say in the 300's range
>I can't really say except I know a lot of facts I learned from books and facts about those books. I know it has all had an effect on me but if I look at it through the lense of daily life other factors seem predominant.
>Rimbaud changed my life for once and all, and all of my interests, my attitudes and actions I feel are tied up in the moment, at 15, I shoplifted a copy of his complete works from the Barnes and Noble in the D.C. train station.

Probably 200ish, spanning from when I could first read to now.
I don't know. The most obvious change is that I became more empathetic, but I can't say I understand the world or people any better than I otherwise would.
I have only ever read one book, and it has completely changed my life.

so you've read a book a day for 27 years?
>>9732360
yep. turning 28 this october
>~250 according togoodreads
>literature (mainly modernist & postmodernist), philosophy, poetry &critical theoryfor the most part
>more mature & empathetic. moved from center to far left (i guess). significantly lost interest in other art forms that i used to obsess over (music, film). feel completely lost as far as knowing truths about the world. think about suicide more and more (not trying to sound edgy just keeping it real- i think this is actually a result of what i read).
>Republic, Revolt of the Masses, The Trial, The Second Sex, Discipline & Punish
I kind of pulled this list out of my ass but all of these books definitely "influenced" me.

Nice story. Never read Rimbaud but now I want to.
Won't disclose the amount because it's not a fishing contest.
But i can say that my dialogue had improved drastically when i started back in 2005

You would describe Discipline and Punish as life changing? Who are you, Angela Davis?
