if you want to read rand, read fountainhead.
it's the better novel and has the least crazy take away.
It's also 2/3rds the length.

If you really love objectivism read atlas shrugged otherwise we the living or fountainhead are good books by Rand that aren't as preachy

Is not a masterpiece of literature. Its characters are flat as the pavement and the prose is stagnant and repetitive but it is a very good vehicle for Rand's ideas and it has a lot of memorable moments. Definitely worth the read just to know what Rand thought of communism and socialdemocracy.
Bear in mind that is around a thousand pages long and is not evenly good throughout.
Read Anthem first maybe, it is a great dystopic novel, very charming.
The only good thing Ayn Rand wrote was Anthem

Probably not. But it probably is worth reading (having said that, I haven't read it) given that 20% of people think it's the best book ever and 80% hate it, it's worth reading to find out whether you are part of that 20%.

Mind, I happen to agree with 90% of Rand's political positions, but it was written like an Ann Coulter newsletter lampooning a California of the not-so-distant future.
