Is there an e-Reader with a very good define function?
I'd love to have it work for multiple languages, giving descriptions, synonyms, example uses, word origins and translations into my native tongue.

No idea, I just borrow e-books from the library and then remove the drm.

If I pirate ebooks for the paperwhite will I be able to use the regular features just the same? I saw that you could even look up character names in books like game of Thrones and it gives you a description - while interesting and possibly handy to have it doesn't matter as much as a proper working dictionary to me.
How safe is it to pirate books? I don't really want to buy ebooks ever. I'm a physical book guy - an eReader would just supplement that.
Is there a difference between pirating amazon ebooks and converting pdfs and the like for use with the paperwhite?

I dont know. I just put in a mobi or e-pub via USB in my kindle and it just works. Sometimes I use Calibre and DRM-removal.
