Pevear and Volokhonsky translations for all.

1) Brothers K
2) Demons
3) Crime and Punishment
4) Notes From Underground
5) The Idiot

Are they as bad as people say for Dost? Or were they good translations?
>>
>>9719836
this order is probably the best one. I might switch demons and c&p but they're all brilliant. Poor Folk at number 6 though obviously.

In what order should I read him? I was going to start with Brothers K, is this a good idea?
>>

>Starting with his last book
>Good idea
Read Notes first and Crime and Punishment immediately after as they go hand in hand
>>

Made this mistake. Definitely do not start with Brothers K. You will enjoy it so much more if you read it last, or at least once you have a few of Dosto's work under your belt like what >>9720170 said. It still is a fantastic book when I first read it, but I enjoyed it so much more a second time after reading the rest of Dosto's novels.

1) Bros Kos
2) Crime and Punishment
3) The Idiot
4) Demons
5) Anything else
6) Notes from the Underground

Who is the best translator?
>>
I think Demons is underrated, glad to see that /lit/ appreciates it.
>>
When I opened this thread I thought someone would list a couple of translations of the same work and then another work.
Summing it up I'm disappointed and too lazy to look up translations.

Constance Garnett is good too.
>>
1) Demons
2) Brothers Karamazov
3) Notes from the underground
4) Crime and Punishment
