How does /lit/ feel about Haruki Murakami?
Very very nice to read. Have read almost all of his novels.
I have yet to read him. I'm impressed by his output, not many contemporary writers seem to be as prolific.
>be /lit/
>shit on borges
>love murakami
Sounds about right.

I purchased wind up bird Chronicle and found it very tedious. I admittedly read only 150 or so pages, but I didn't care for any of the characters and had no interest in the plot.
I keep reading these Japanese novels and I continue to be vaguely unmoved by them
OP here. I stopped recreationally reading around the time highschool started, but my junior year introduced me to Murakami and to this day (two years later) I love his stuff.

From only reading 1Q84 (in german), I feel like the literary value of his work does not hold up against his reputation outside of /lit/, but reading it felt like shoving cheap yet delicious vanilla pudding down by the litre. Simple but comfy prose, very interesting plot and nicely drawn characters. I will buy more of his work eventually, if I find myself in the mood for it.

Like his earlier books better, but generally he's pretty decent.

1Q84 was the Aeneid and Ulysses of our time.
I have never heard so many fictional phones ring.
