Just finished reading this. What did I think?
>>
heh
>>
Isn't it good?
>>
>>9693965
i'll tell you what did you think if you tell me what did i mean by this
>>
>>9693965
nihil
>>
you think it's pretty nice and you totally got a boner during that handjob scene.
>>
>>9694783
doesn't he fuck a ghost or something
I might read it
>>
everytime i read murakami i feel like a lonely teen girl and i love it
>>
>>9694783
every murkami book has a sexual scene. borderline boner
>>
>>9696396
wtf i want to read murakami now
>>
>>9693965
he is a fun read, almost always. im not saying theres a lot going on in his brain, but he knows how to write something interesting. never dropped any of his books, although i only read maybe 3 of his books. if any of his books have anything clever to say, it would be kafka on the shore. but wild sheep chase is probably my favorite

can you call it magical realism? when he creates a seemingly real world just to add a splash of unusual at the end? like the ghost friend at the end of the wild sheep chase?
>>
>>9696673
too minor to be magical realism
belongs to the genre typified by DFW that I call "realism plus levitation"
>>
>>9693965
Little bit weird and porny desu

V nice themes but strange execution
>>
>>9696677
how about kafka on the shore? that seems pretty consistently out of touch
>>
light novel grade
no adult Japanese would read a Murakami book
>>
>>9696693
if we are talking about what japanese people would read, how about six four by hideo yokoyama?

i read this big damn book and loved it and i have nobody to talk to about it.
>>
>tfw I gave this book to the woman of my dreams and never heard from her again
>>
Look at the posters in this thread. Only one person used proper capitalization and punctuation in their post (>>9694207).

Pathetic. You should feel ashamed of yourselves.
>>
>>9696710
>proper capitalization and punctuation
bitch this is a fucking forum where posts get deleted after like a day or 2. im too drunk to bother
>>
>>9696710
nice plebbit spacing :^)

>>
>>9696741
Do you think this is an acceptable excuse for not doing something as simple as hitting the shift key?

>>9696746
I have never posted on reddit, and reddit has nothing to do with why you cannot write appropriately.
>>
>>9696764
god dammit, i said im drunk. have you not been drunk babby?
>>
>>9696855
Being drunk can be a viable excuse for misspelling words like "baby," but there's no legitimate reason why you and the however many other people who posted in this thread couldn't capitalize the beginning of your sentences. I mean, what the fuck. It must be a thing retarded faggots do to feign edgy unseriousness about life and the topics that often pop up in the course of it. Get your shit together, type like a man.
>>
>>9696942
>misspelling words like "baby,"
>babby
>type like a man
>being such a lil bitch about grammar and punctuation
either a newfag or just an old man posting in a forum

>>9696942
i hope this is satire
>>
>>9696960
I am neither new nor old; I am merely someone who is chastising you for your childish communication habits.

>>9696963
This is not satire. I am serious. Stop writing like a 2nd grader.
>>
>>9696971
babby is an old internet ""fad"", or meme as you redditors like to call it
>>
>>9696942
>comma splice
Yikes.
>>
>>9696992
I already stated that I have never posted on reddit. I've also probably been there fewer times than you have. Please start capitalizing the letter at the beginning of your sentence and using periods at the end. Do you want people to think they're communicating with a nigger?

>>9696993
Misfire. Improve yourself. But thank you for doing what I mentioned above.
>>
>>9697010

grammar Is for plebs Fagget. gEt a life.
>>
>>9697019
It's the opposite, and you are furthering the niggardization of your own language. Feel shame.
>>
>>9697010
>Do you want people to think they're communicating with a nigger?
oh shit you dumb as fuck
>>
>>9697075
Incorrect. I'm attempting to help you stop acting dumb/niggerish by telling you how dumb and niggerish you sound when you fail to use proper grammar.
>>
>>9693965
It's literotica. Murakami fans are repressed hypersexual deviants. They're just using literature as a way to rationalize it.
>>
Best thread. I wish i could save it, i'll miss the grammar-fascist guy ;(
>>
>>9697089
>help you stop acting dumb/niggerish by telling you how dumb and niggerish
you should have stopped before you said anything racist
>>
>>9697119
"Racist" isn't a real word. Stop being a faggot.
>>
>>9697094
>Japanese are repressed hypersexual deviants
>>
>>9697127
>"Racist" isn't a real word. Stop being a faggot.
wtf
>>
>>9696942
to many commas. You surely are spaniard
>>
>>9697149
I guess, but Murakami's fanbase is largely Western.
>>
>>9693965
It was very good. The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is better, those are the only two books of his that I've read.
>>
What are Murakami's strong points as a writer?
>>
>>9693965
You thought it was swill for young hipster femanons and by far his worst novel.
>>
>>9693965
You were reminded of Finding Alaska, no matter how much you tried to avoid it.
>>
>>9697259
I don't know, I've read (in order) Kafka, Wind-Up Bird, Norwegian Wood, Men Without Women, and Wild Sheep Chase. and NW was easily my least favorite.

I suppose part of it is personal preference, but there was an unavoidable element of angst. In Kafka, that angst is somewhat justified (in terms of the main character's background and personality) and its negative qualities subsumed by the sense that there is something larger than it operating throughout the story. The alternating structure helps dilute it, too.

Whereas in NW I wanted to slap the shit out of the protagonist half the time. It ended up feeling like a meandering, half-formed meditation. It made me feel that Murakami's characterizations tend to be shallow (not necessarily weak), but the absurd world they're couched in mitigates that shortcoming. Without it, like in NW, he feels out of his element.
