Just picked up a copy of this today, what should I expect?
Why is this book suddenly everywhere? What led you to this book OP?
You should expect a book about 19th century poverty and activism.

It's been on my reading list for a few years and I saw it when I went to the bookstore yesterday. Nothing in particular led me to it I guess.

Expect to cry multiple times throughout.

something led you to it, you didnt just wake up one day and go "aha, Zola's Germinal!"
i came to it because it was popular during occupy when people were clamoring for books that legitimised activism.

What the fuck are you on about? Like I said, it's been on my list for years. Maybe I saw it on here or something, I don't know. Pretty sure I put it on my list before Occupy.

man you are hopeless, you're adrift on the unconscious with minimal autonomy.

Fuck off back to your semen crusted sock you stroke victim.

anger and hostility will get you nowhere, young padawan. does your own mind terrify you so much you lash out when asked to question it?

One fucking glorious scene that I don't know if I should even hint at because it's so horrible and satisfying I thought I was reading a revenge tragedy for a moment.
Expect to yell "Germinal!" ironically when you want to declare to socialists that you've been there, done that, and have given up on anyone who understands the phrase and still believes they're oppressed.
Zola is a good writer, though. Sorta funny, but in that way where you're sorta suppose to maybe not laugh.
