Seems like no matter what I do they end up getting beat to shit, frayed pages, covered begin tearing at the corners, etc. just from carrying the book around with me. All my books that I've read just look so ugly.
Do you carry around any hardcovers or just paperbacks?
why would you care that much about the look? why are you so vain?
my aenid is in pieces -- still readable.

I have tons of paperbacks and I love how dog-earned and worn they all get. It shows this book has been handled and read all over. Most of my paperbacks are used so they have all sorts of wear.

Don't like hardcovers, they hurt to hold in my hands after awhile.

you seem like a person that generally treats their possessions shabbily. i bet you used to leave cds out everywhere too. Either im reading a book or i keep it in my bag inside a freezer bag so the pages don't get all fucked up. probably ocd but ohwell.

I had this problem too but I just stopped doing things that would fuck up the book and got into the habit of using bookmarks, not holding it open in a way that creases the spine, putting it in a backpack pocket that doesn't have loose stuff in it that would get tossed around and fuck it up, etc.
Also,
>pic related, guess which book I've read and which is brand new from my local chain bookstore
