i need someone to play god and give me an authoritative answer so i don't have to think for myself
Cut out Murakami. Read the rest in chronological order
begin with tolstoy, then chekov and proust, continue with gaddis and pynchon
Chronological.
chronological is bullshit. general advice to new readers: you need to expose your mind to more accessible pieces of literature first before you both a.) build up the skill necessary to tackle more advanced tomes and b.) actually appreciate the more artistically challenging and innovative literature that's out there. this goes for almost all forms of art but it especially wrings true for literature - how can you possibly appreciate experimental forms of language if you don't even know the basic stuff first?
that being said, i would still prioritize the bible first since christian influence in the canon is phenomenal. then: cheever, chekhov, carver, williams, murakami. calvino, tolstoy, proust, gaddis and pynchon are too beyond your level right now. some additional suggestions for you: camus, orwell, wilde, maupassant, marquez, salinger.

Wait Knausgård's Min Kamp is called My Struggle in English? Then it completely loses the connection to Mein Kampf, I though that was the whole point of the title. Too bad.
