Who the fuck knows. Words have arbitrary definitions defined in dictionaries because it's a general consensus of the word's meaning. A word's meaning can ebb and flow with the times making old dictionaries somewhat useless in the modern age.
The difference between a writer and an author or a novelist is as arbitrary and pointless as the words they are speaking.
So, don't worry about it. Write something and forget about labels and words, write what you mean, not whatever some dictionary tells you the meaning of.
