Hey /lit/, I have a request. Please recommend to me some novels (or even story collections) that take place in an early 20th century urban American setting--particularly NYC (but it doesn't necessarily have to be NYC specifically). I'm looking for a kind of atmosphere like the Robert DeNiro parts in Godfather II. Pic related. Any good novels with this kind of setting/atmosphere?? Thanks.

Knock yourself out.
It's amazing how traditional architecture can make even as filthy a street as that one look good.
Modernism in architecture should be outlawed.

Not quite lit, but tell me you've heard of 'Once Upon a Time in America'?
Sergio Leone's last film, one of his best. Instead of a western, this one is a cross between the Great Gatsby, Eden Martin, and those parts of the Godfather you're talking about. It's set during the prohibition. It's great, watch it
If you haven't seen it, make sure you see the four hour version
