I love the epic scope of this book, its Crimean war setting that zooms in on these incredibly tormented yet realistically rendered characters
Pic is the cover of my edition
Don't know if this would be considered "lesser known," but I don't see it discussed here at all.
Got me through a rough patch of my college years, mostly by highlighting the absurdity of it all.

I'm reading The Tanners right now. Kinda good. It's so romantic, I'm not used to it.

That was when my long and sadly one sided love affair with Anna Kendrick began.
>>9666025
she is one of my three key hollywood waifus
the other two are amy adams and halle berry. alison brie was on there but she got married recently and it's very impolite to covet another man's wife

Amy is hot. I would like to have sex with her in the missionary position for the sole purpose of recreation.
>>9666056
Me too but also we would go to church and have barbecues on summer afternoons at the beach with our educationally successful children

For a few seconds thought this was a joke
I love the The Basketball Diaries. Jim Carroll's writing is great and at times poetic and dreamy(but used sparingly in a handful of evocative passages)
it is sadly out of print but I have a 1987 Faber & Faber double binding of The Basketball Diaries and The Book of Nods(a collection of prose poetry inspired by the vivid dreams sometimes experienced while nodding out on opiates)

Truely a masterpiece. My favorite scene in that book is whenSeeyiyadakov asks "If I take that off, will you die?"
>>9664642
it was kinda underwhelming desu i had higher hopes
>>9664603
If you liked that, you'll love "The Brothers Raskolnikov."
>>9666836
Do you retards think you're tricking people into confusing Tolstoy and Dosto as being the same author or some shit?
>>9665985
As one would expect, the book is completely different from the novel. In fact, Anna Kendrick's character doesn't even exist in the book. Nor does the scene where Ryan goes to Alex's house and sees her family.
The movie is decent romantic comedy-esque material, but the book is a more serious look into the life of the "road warrior" lifestyle and modern business practices. Ryan is so removed from common society he may as well be innawoods.

Bah, sorry. *The movie is completely different from the novel.

Pride of Carthage, strongly colorized actual history, yet fun to read if you like Romans, Carthage and battles. Tbh like Game of Thrones that makes some sense.

Toss-up between this and Leskov's Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District.
