>"I'm a strong independent woman who don't need no man!"
>("Unless he's rich.")
Can I stop reading this now?

It's almost as if the book is a comedy with heavy use of irony

>>9660971
When does she imply that?
You idiot!!!! Elizabeth wants a man but men are fake as shit around her. Darcy is an alpha and you hate the book because you're a parasite when it comes to women
>>9660971
very surface level analysis you mental midget
>>9660971
I doubt a woman of her time defined female independence in exactly the same way a woman would today. Anyway, it isn't that Elizabeth doesn't want a man; she wants someone worthy of her. She specifically admonishes Charlotte Lucas for marrying an unworthy man for his money, and Lydia gets in trouble snagging an unworthy poor man.

What an ironic coincidence that the man worthy of Elizabeth was also rich. This is truly the subtle genius of Austen.

No one wants to marry a poor man. Not today, not then and not ever.

very shallow defense you colossal faggot

Wealth, much like physical beauty, is a good and a component of worthiness.
