The forewords are where somebody discusses the book, spoilers and all. How the fuck do you experience a sense of genuine surprise over this unless if you're a retard?

but to be fair, we all make that mistake once.

1984 was the first and last intro for a book i ever read. spoiled in the first two fuckin sentences.

I always read the forward/introduction in foreign books which rely heavily on a cultural background which I lack. I read them to ground myself in the context of the book and glean a little bit about the society and author it came from.

If it's a book important enough to bother reading the introduction, you probably know most of the important plot points already anyway.

Reading the introduction actually hinders my experience when reading fiction: if I read it, I don't want to bother with studying the detail. That can come later, AFTER I finish the novel myself.
