For me it was mix of humor, sense of dread, uncertainty.
The Secret History of Twin Peaks
Most surrealist works desu. Anything by Kafka of course. I'd also say Bruno Schulz and maybe even Inherent Vice by Pynchon for more of the crime side. I've also been told Murakami has a similar atmosphere to Twin Peaks but I didn't really enjoy much of the work I've read of him to recommend.

Odd answer but Capote's In Cold Blood.
For the small-town, dark stuff appeal. That's what stood out to me in Twin Peaks anyway.
