Does this need to be updated at all, or are we still comfortable that this is the best "Beginner's Guide to Fiction Writing" list we can make?

Maybe we could add Lajos Egri's Dramatic Writing
Make the chart consist entirely of American English dictionaries

Was just talking about this book yesterday

inclusion of a dozen other authors or handbooks wouldnt make it less contingent. just walk past it without staring.

What?

I wouldn't mind a sub-section on screenwriting. It could include McKee's Story/Dialogue, John Yorke's Into The Woods, Syd Field, Blake Snyder, etc.
Joseph Campbell's The Hero With A Thousand Faces and Aristotle's Poetics should probably be on there as honourable mentions too.

>Aristole's Poetics
Actual garbage
It has such grand "advice" in it such as :"Story shouldn't take place over a greater amount of time than a day"
>>9636583
Why? Literally just write and publish your writings.

Has anyone here actually read On Writing? I normally find King sophomoric at best, but I thought it was excellent.

Totally agree. "On writing" really got me to give writing a try. It also got me to read King's other books and the dark tower series was pretty awesome.

Yes and I found that book worthless. It didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, but I guess if you are a real, proper, true beginner then it might be of some help. What I found most helpful was his advice on submitting to publishers/finding an agent, though I don't know if it would still be relevant.
