I agree with this on principle OP, but there is usually some good books that come out of bad situations and suffering, of which indonesia is a top exporter. It may be that they are suffering from the whole "cant write good books as a muslim for fear of death" thing

That sounds genuinely terrible. I remember not seeing even one other white person when I visited Indonesia. The people there acted like I was some demigod from another planet. Minorities in america really have no idea what it's like to be an actual minority. Also traffic is absolutely awful in Jakarta. It takes 2 hours to drive a couple miles. You'd be better off walking in almost every situation.
