Yeah I dunno I think if a story has something to say then its good.
Stephen King made some pretty scary stuff with good plots but they're not perfect.

Mood and imagery are much more important than plot in horror
obviously long winder descriptions of the monsters, long descriptions of murders, characters who talk about things i dont like before being killed. your classic creative writing 101 horror story.

There is no perfect story. There's memorable, forgettable, and bad. Just be memorable enough to be considered great.

That story about a guy who stayed in his room too long, became convinced that something had "got" the rest of the world and he was the last holdout.
