Why is it that i speak 4 languages but prefer reading translated works of literature in English?

I'm not necessarily saying that English is the greatest language, but it's definitely the most translation friendly.
Because English is foreign to you, the countries that use it are the most developed and culturally influential, so it sounds cool. It's not the "common" language that everyone around you knows, so by using it you're elevating yourself above them. This urge exists everywhere, including the English-speaking countries. I saw multiple threads where anglos said that their literary tradition is shit compared to other European countries.
