The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing.
Its one of the main themes.
inb4 /arcanine/ starts ranting about feminism. Lessing disliked much of second and third wave feminism and was quite vocal about it. she was especially concerned about its negative influence on young boys in the education system
I think most Murakami novels are vaguely about this. He places characters just out of reach with one another but it is obvious they were destined to be together, only the protagonist is usually in love with someone else and that person tends to be ephemeral like an embodied fantasy so instead of being in love with his true love he chases the dream girl and never catches her.

Norwegian Wood
Love in the Time of Cholera and The Sorrows of Young Werther are personal favourites about obsessive love. Wuthering Heights. I can't give you any particularly original suggestions.
